Preliminary pencil sketch of Paul McCartney
Road & Track Magazine
Music Issue, 2023. Art Director: Nathan Schroeder. Background: Paul McCartney took a solo road trip to France in 1966. In the Beatles album time line, this was after Revolver and before Sergeant Pepper. He was alone and seeking anonymity. On the road trip, he wore disguises so that he could just be a regular person at a cafe, observing life and letting new ideas trickle in. A refresh. These two illustrations work together to show the effect a getaway can have on the creative mind. And Paul’s road trip must’ve been fantastic because the Beatles started recording Sergeant Pepper soon after he returned. As a lifetime Beatles fan, I enjoyed working on this so much.
